Medical Microbiology - University of Illinois at Chicago

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC) seeks candidates for an open rank faculty position in the Academic Clinician Track at either the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level. Applicants must have an MD or PhD or MD/PhD degree. For MD candidates, applicants must be board certified in clinical pathology (or AP/CP) and subspecialty certification by the American Board of Pathology (or eligible) or American Board of Medical Microbiology (ABMM). For PhD candidates, applicants must have board certification by the American Board of Medical Microbiology (or eligible).

The Division of Laboratory Medicine at Department of Pathology at UIC provides testing in all major disciplines including microbiology, chemistry, hematology, transfusion medicine, tissue typing/transplant, cytogenetics and molecular pathology. The Division's expertise is shared not only with the UIC Medical Center, but with physicians and other medical facilities through the University of Illinois Hospital & Health Sciences System Reference Laboratory System.

Responsibilities of the applicant include a combination of clinical microbiology service and participation in teaching for medical students, residents, fellows, and house staff. The successful applicant will have experience in the field of clinical microbiology and one or more of its subspecialties. The successful candidate will have demonstrated expertise in molecular diagnostics and specifically next generation sequencing technology for clinical diagnostics and metagenomics. Applicants must have strong leadership and interpersonal skills and willingness to work closely with other clinical services.

The applicant is expected to develop or continue his/her basic or translational research program. This faculty position provides opportunity for career growth and interaction with outstanding team of colleagues at the level of the department and institutions.
