Attending Physician for the Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapy Laboratory Services - Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center

The Department of Laboratory Medicine at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) is recruiting for an Attending Physician for the Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapy Laboratory Services at the Assistant or Associate Level.

The Memorial Hospital for Cancer and Allied Diseases is a worldwide leader in cancer treatment and diagnosis, consistently voted as one of the best specialty hospitals in the nation. The Department of Laboratory Medicine provides diagnostic testing for all patients seen at MSK. The Department includes the following services: Clinical Chemistry including Point-of Care, Hematology including Coagulation and Cellular Immunology, Microbiology, Cell Therapy, Transfusion Medicine including blood bank, donor room and apheresis, and jointly with the Pathology Department, Hematopathology. The main campus operation is comprised of seven laboratories and the highest-volume hospital-based blood donor room in the city of New York. In addition, there are 6 regional sites located in New Jersey, Westchester, Long Island and several outpatient sites in Manhattan that perform limited on-site testing. The Department of Laboratory Medicine expanded into a new, state-of-the art Laboratory Medicine building with individual space for each service and dedicated resources for innovation activities at the end of 2017.

The Transfusion Medicine and Cell Therapy Laboratory Service performs work which is high volume and has significant complexity. In addition to transfusing approximately 47,000 products annually, Transfusion Medicine has an active consultative service as well as oversight of the blood management and quality programs. The Donor Room collects 4900 allogeneic blood products in addition to 700 stem cell collection and therapeutic procedures. The Cell Therapy Laboratory supports 650 transplants annually which require cutting edge cell processing techniques.

This position includes participation in attending coverage, administration, and development of Cellular Therapy and Transfusion Medicine services. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to help provide medical oversight of laboratory services across MSK Manhattan and Regional laboratories, participate in quality management programs, conduct new test development, engage in translational/collaborative investigations, and play an integral role in clinical consultation and interpretive reporting. The successful applicant will be expected to actively engage in the Laboratory Medicine Fellowship training program through teaching and mentoring of fellows.

Candidates must have an MD, DO, or MD PhD, Board Certification from the American Board of Pathology in CP or AP/CP, and subspecialty Board Certification in Transfusion Medicine/Blood Banking. Eligibility to obtain NYS DOH COQs in the full range of categories conferred by CP training is preferred.
