Clinical Chemist, Stat Lab and Point of Care Testing - Beaumont Health

The primary position will provide technical expertise in matters relating to the acquisition, operation, implementation and quality control of instruments and methods used in our Stat Lab and in Point of Care testing.  Clinical Chemistry at Beaumont-Royal Oak encompasses automated chemistry (routine and stat), special chemistry (including immunology), toxicology/therapeutic drug monitoring and urinalysis.  Some responsibilities will be shared with other clinical chemists and pathologists.  Assistance with oversight of smaller laboratories within the Beaumont system will be necessary.

Essential Duties:

1.  Selects, evaluates and implements the use of new methods and instrumentation, reviews and interprets data, cost analysis and where necessary establishes reference ranges.

2.  Investigates and resolves problems with equipment, test procedures, systems of operations within the laboratory and preanalytical problems.

3.  Provides support for interpreting test results and information on testing available within the section.

4.  Establishes and monitors quality control procedures and quality assurance practices and participates in training and competency assessment.

5.  Participates in the development of long-range plans, performance objectives and standards for the section, including protocols for complying with regulatory and certification requirements of CLIA, CAP and Joint Commission.

6.  Participates in training programs for Clinical Pathology residents, fellows, medical students, medical technologists/ medical laboratory technicians and students and in continuing education programs for departmental staff and medical staff.

7.   Supports the integrated strategies for undergraduate, graduate, CME and research based on the priorities and standards endorsed by the Chief Academic Offices and the Dean of Oakland University William Beaumont School of Medicine.
