Clinical Chemist/Toxicologist - University of Utah Health Laboratories

The Department of Pathology is seeking a clinical chemist or a clinical pathologist with expertise in clinical chemistry and toxicology. The candidate must have an interest in pursuing a career in academic laboratory medicine.

This faculty member will join the Division of Clinical Pathology as a medical director for University of Utah Health clinical laboratories. The candidate will share responsibility with other medical directors for supporting inpatient and ambulatory laboratory operations. The scope of laboratory testing at these facilities includes routine chemistry, toxicology, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, rapid infectious diagnostic testing, and point-of-care.

The applicant’s expertise in clinical chemistry will support chemistry assay and instrument validation for multiple labs within the University Division, including standardizing methods, technical, and operational processes among clinical lab sites. Additionally, the position will support laboratory and University Health quality improvement, compliance, and accreditation initiatives, and provide consultation to clinicians. Participation in teaching of medical students, pathology residents, and clinical chemistry fellows is expected. Research in applied laboratory medicine in support of the academic mission of the department is also expected.

Applicants require a PhD or MD/DO degree and must be board certified or board eligible (ABCC or ABP, respectively). Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.
