The Genetics Division of the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, University of Washington (UW) Medicine is recruiting a full-time faculty member on the Clinician-Teacher pathway. There is one open position for a faculty appointment at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor without tenure by reason of funding. Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank.

The Genetics Division includes faculty who collaborate with pathologists, laboratory geneticists, medical geneticists, oncologists, and researchers across UW Medicine, Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center, and Seattle Children’s Hospital in an extremely collegial, supportive, and interactive environment.

This position will demonstrate excellent clinical laboratory genomics skills. This position will serve as a clinical director for Genetics Division clinical laboratories that perform high-complexity testing, including exome sequencing and noninvasive prenatal screening. Responsibilities will also include direction of a CLIA-certified laboratory within the UW Northwest Genomics Center to support large-scale clinical research projects, including genome sequencing and return of results for the NIH flagship All of Us Research Program. Additional responsibilities include teaching residents, fellows, medical students, and medical laboratory science undergraduate students. The successful candidate is expected to develop an area of scholarship appropriate to their clinical and/or educational interests. The Genetics Division is staffed by 14 faculty who collectively sign out over 20,000 tests annually.

Position factors for consideration includes, but are not limited to:

Previous experience directing a CAP-accredited, CLIA-certified high complexity molecular diagnostics laboratory performing genetic testing
Subspecialty expertise in genetic diagnosis of Mendelian disorders.
Assistant Professors without tenure are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate Professors without tenure hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. This position remains open until filled with an anticipated start date of 7/1/2023, but is flexible.
