Director, Clinical Chemistry and Diagnostic Immunology - Northwell Health

Northwell Health Laboratories seeks a qualified M.D. or M.D., Ph.D. physician, or Ph.D. Clinical Scientist, to provide leadership of Clinical Chemistry and Diagnostic Immunology laboratory services of the “Core Laboratory” of the Northwell Health system. The Core Laboratory supports the 23 hospital Northwell Health system, the Clinical Laboratory of New York (CLNY) alliance with New York Health + Hospitals, and a robust regional outreach program serving affiliated and non-affiliated physician practices, skilled nursing facilities, and ambulatory urgent care and procedure centers. The Core Laboratory is an essential component of Northwell Health Laboratories, one of the major non-profit integrated laboratory networks in the country.

This individual will provide visible and accessible leadership for Clinical Chemistry and Diagnostic Immunology, acting as a primary liaison with laboratory senior leadership and administrative staff, referring clinicians, laboratory and administrative staff, including marketing and client service. Responsibilities will also include ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements of CAP, CLIA, and the State of New York Department of Health; providing leadership for and management of the technologist workforce; rigorous attention to safety and quality management programming; and coordination with Laboratory Information Services. This individual will be a faculty member of the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine of the Donald and Barbara Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra/Northwell, and will have academic rank in accordance with qualifications. This individual will be expected to support the education of physicians-in-training at both the graduate and undergraduate level, and education of other medical professionals including technologists, supervisors, and managers. Direct reporting will be to the Medical Director of Northwell Health Laboratories.

Required qualifications include board certification in Clinical Pathology (CP) or in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) for M.D.s, or board certification from the American Board of Clinical Chemistry for Ph.D.s; with substantive experience in leadership of a complex reference laboratory preferred. The individual will be expected to have, or successfully obtain, a New York State license to practice medicine (M.D.s) or laboratory medicine (Ph.D.s), and to hold or be eligible for the appropriate New York State Certificates of Qualification. An academic background with demonstrated academic accomplishments is desirable.
