Clinical Chemistry Postdoctoral Fellowship Position - Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania

Position Description:
A clinical chemistry postdoctoral fellowship position is available at University of Pennsylvania. This is a two-year fellowship position, available starting July 2020. The fellow will rotate through various laboratories at Hospital of University of Pennsylvania and Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. These laboratories include the core laboratory, endocrinology, toxicology, point-of-care testing, and satellite laboratories. Elective rotations in selected laboratory areas of interest will also be provided. The fellow will study proper testing procedures (specimen collection and processing), methodology, and clinical correlation of testing. Small research projects including, but not limited to, method development and clinical case study will also be assigned.
The fellow will also develop skills in management, take on-call duty, and conduct self-initiated research approved by the program director. The fellow will gradually assume greater responsibilities in the clinical service laboratories. The fellow will review and address laboratory management and patient care problems. The fellow is expected to obtain board certification in Clinical Chemistry by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC) by the end of the fellowship.

Prerequisites:
Doctoral degrees (PhD, MD, or PharmD and equivalent) at accredited institutions are required for admission into the program.
Individuals with doctoral degrees in the following and other relevant life science areas are encouraged to apply: Clinical Chemistry, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Medicine, Molecular Biology, Toxicology, Pharmacology, Physiology, or Genetics.
Candidates should have met 30-hour minimum requirement of undergraduate and/or graduate level biochemistry or chemistry courses, which is required for ABCC certification. Previous experience in clinical chemistry is not required but strong interests in laboratory medicine and research is required.
