Academic Clinical Pathologist - The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine Department of Pathology

The Department of Pathology at The University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine seeks candidates for an Assistant, Associate or Professor position on either the tenure track or non-tenure clinical track to join an active clinical pathology division. The position will provide clinical pathology coverage at the University of Iowa (UI) as well as the Iowa City Veterans Administration (ICVA) hospital.

Required qualifications for MD and MD/PhD candidates include:
• MD or equivalent with credentials required to obtain a medical license in the State of Iowa
• Completion of an accredited residency training in clinical pathology (CP)
• Board certification or board eligibility in CP

Required qualifications for PhD candidates include:
• PhD in biomedical sciences, followed by 2-year accredited training or experience in clinical chemistry and/or microbiology
• Board certification or equivalent in areas of training

In addition to the required qualifications, the following qualifications are highly desirable:
• Fellowship-level training or experience in a CP subspecialty, particularly chemistry or microbiology
• Demonstrated ability to excel at scholarship and teaching

Physician-scientist candidates with productive research programs or clinical-track CP faculty candidates are equally welcome to apply.

The clinical pathology service at UI and ICVA encompasses a broad range of coverage across multiple subspecialty disciplines, including chemistry, microbiology, transfusion medicine, hematology, coagulation, molecular pathology and informatics. There are opportunities for development of regional outreach programs and other leadership opportunities within the department and VA system. Department of Pathology faculty are involved in training house staff in pathology and other inter-disciplinary areas. They also teach students in both lecture and small group formats for the medical school, allied health programs, and graduate school programs.
