Associate Medical Director, Clinical Chemistry Section - University of Virginia

The Department of Pathology at the University of Virginia invites applications for an academically oriented clinical chemist to serve as Associate Medical Director of the Section of Clinical Chemistry. The successful candidate must qualify for an appointment at the rank of an Assistant Professor of Pathology. Responsibilities include the oversight of laboratory testing and quality, assay development and validation, and point of care testing. The Section consists of automated chemistry, special chemistry, point of care and immunology laboratories.

Interested candidates must have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree, and be board certified or eligible by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry or the American Board of Pathology, as applicable. Responsibilities will include clinical service (oversight over one or more of the clinical chemistry laboratories), teaching (primarily pathology residents and clinical chemistry fellows), and collaborative and/or independent research activities. Fellowship training in clinical chemistry is highly desirable. Experience and knowledge in development and oversight of automated clinical chemistry tests and point of care testing are highly desirable.

The Clinical Chemistry team at the University of Virginia Health System is part of an integrated department of pathology https://med.virginia.edu/pathology/ with successful programs in anatomic and clinical pathology, and a vibrant educational program for medical students, residents and fellows, including a COMACC-accredited clinical chemistry fellowship.
