Medical Director of the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/CUIMC Automated Laboratory - Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC)

The Department of Pathology & Cell Biology at Columbia University Irving Medical Center (CUIMC) is recruiting for an MD, MD/PhD, or PhD academic clinical pathologist of any rank to join our faculty as a Medical Director of the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/CUIMC Automated Laboratory. This Laboratory provides state-of-the-art care to our adult and pediatric patient population, with an emphasis on clinical chemistry, hematology, and hemostasis. Applicants should have an established track record of accomplishment within the field of clinical pathology and a demonstrated ability to lead an experienced group of laboratory technologists, supervisors, and staff. In addition to strong clinical and technical skills, a demonstrated record of collegiality and inter-departmental collaboration will be important, as the candidate will work closely with the heads of the Chemistry, Hematology/Hemostasis, and Microbiology services. The successful candidate will have appropriate training and certification with the American Board of Pathology, or other equivalent relevant accrediting organization. Additional training, experience or subspecialty certification in informatics, and/or clinical chemistry, hematology, or hemostasis is desirable. The applicant must also be able to satisfy clinical licensing requirements to serve as a Laboratory Director in New York State.

The successful applicant will participate actively in Informatics and Quality Assurance, with a particular focus on preventing pre- and post-analytical errors. The applicant will also help oversee diagnostic testing in the areas of Chemistry, Hematology, and Hemostasis and the position includes responsibilities for teaching pathology residents, medical students, and technical staff. Applicants should have a track record of publications in the field. The position offers a competitive salary commensurate with training and experience, and an appointment to the faculty of the Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians & Surgeons.

The Clinical Automated Laboratory at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/CUIMC is located in the Washington Heights neighborhood of New York City, offering unparalleled opportunities to work and live in a thriving, diverse, metropolitan environment with access to world-class cultural institutions, restaurants, and entertainment. The recently renovated Laboratory is located on the 3rd floor of the Harkness Pavilion building and receives >10,000 samples per day with >14 million test results reported annually.
