Assistant Director, Clinical and Special Chemistry - Women and Infants Hospital and the Alpert Medical School at Brown University

The Alpert Medical School at Brown University and Women and Infants Hospital, Department of Pathology & Laboratory Medicine, Providence RI, are seeking a candidate with training and expertise clinical chemistry and related disciplines, described below, as a full-time faculty member with clinical service, research (clinical and translational), and teaching responsibilities at the Assistant or Associate Professor level. As Assistant Director of the Clinical Chemistry section, they will join a senior team in the Division of Laboratory Medicine.

The laboratory is nationally recognized for its prenatal screening testing and expertise and is at the forefront of clinical and research efforts to expand and improve the quality of care that patients receive.

The successful candidate must have a MD, DO, MD/PhD, or PhD degree and be Board certified (or Board eligible) by the American Board of Pathology (in CP or AP/CP) or the American Board of Clinical Chemistry (ABCC).

Candidates must have strong analytical and consultative clinical skills in clinical chemistry. Applied research and clinical experience in molecular biology are especially desirable. A basic knowledge of clinical laboratory regulatory requirements such as Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and College of American Pathologists (CAP) is important. Experience and interest in related areas including clinical biochemistry for women’s health and prenatal screening are preferred. Candidates must be experienced in new assay development/validation and test utilization management, general core laboratory automation, and immunoassay analyzers. The research portion of the laboratory considerably overlaps with the clinical portion. Additional responsibilities include participation in medical education. A history of obtaining and securing extramural funding and a strong record of peer-reviewed publications will be viewed favorably.
