Director, Biochemical Disease Detection Lab - Yale University School of Medicine

The Department of Laboratory Medicine in collaboration with the Department of Genetics is seeking a PhD-level biochemical geneticist to join its faculty at the level of Assistant Professor with a primary appointment in Laboratory Medicine and a secondary appointment in Genetics. This position‘s primary responsibility is to serve as a director for the Biochemical Disease Detection Lab (BDDL) by developing and maintaining needed methods and performing related sign-out activities.

About You:
We seek a PhD (or MD) individual that is board-certified in either Clinical Biochemical Genetics or Medical Biochemical Genetics. This new faculty member will serve as Lab Director for the Biochemical Disease Detection Lab in the Department of Laboratory Medicine. In addition, this faculty member will participate in advancing other diagnostic testing in metabolomics, proteomics, lipidomics, and small molecule assessment and will be a member of the Clinical Genetics Unit within the Department of Genetics.

About the role:
As Lab or Medical Director for BDDL the primary duties will be:
- Expanding and managing the Biochemical Disease Detection Lab (BDDL)
- Interpreting results and signing out reports
- Participating in teaching and training activities for medical students, residents, and clinical fellows in the departments of laboratory medicine and genetics especially on the topic of biochemical genetics
- Participation in patient centered research and scholarly activities related to the areas above is strongly encouraged; there are many opportunities for such activities.

The Yale School of Medicine Department of Laboratory Medicine has a long tradition of providing leading clinical, research, and educational advancement in the field. It provides clinical laboratory testing for the Yale New Haven Hospital, a 1,541 bed comprehensive inpatient facility including the YNH Children’s Hospital and Smilow Cancer Center, as well as supporting extensive geographically disparate ambulatory facilities, and serves as a reference laboratory for other institutions. The Yale Department of Genetics has an equally long history of excellence in all three missions, with cutting-edge investigation across the basic to clinical spectrum.

Qualifications:
Candidates must hold a PhD (or an MD) degree and be board eligible or board certified in Clinical Biochemical Genetics or Medical Biochemical Genetics.
