Assistant Medical Director of Central Laboratory - Weill Cornell Medical College

The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine invites applications for a full-time academic appointment with clinical responsibilities in the division of Clinical Pathology to serve as Assistant Medical Director of Central Laboratory. The Central Laboratory provides state-of-the-art testing for patients at New York Presbyterian/Weill Cornell Medicine as well as an ever-expanding network of reference laboratory clients through the New York Hospital Laboratories outreach program. The Central Laboratory processes over 16 million tests annually in specialty areas that include Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation and Immunology. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to the teaching, service, and research missions of the Department. Clinical responsibilities will include sharing in the medical direction of the Central laboratories of NYP Weill Cornell. Applicants must hold an M.D. or D.O. degree with board certification or eligibility in Clinical Pathology. The successful candidate will have demonstrated a commitment to medical student teaching and to the training of residents and fellows. Having demonstrated abilities in translational and/or clinical research is desirable. This individual will provide visible and accessible leadership for Central laboratory, particularly Diagnostic Immunology, acting as a primary liaison with laboratory senior leadership and administrative staff, referring clinicians, laboratory and administrative staff, including marketing and client service.

Responsibilities will also include ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements of CAP, CLIA, and the State of New York Department of Health; providing leadership for and management of the technologist workforce; rigorous attention to safety and quality management programming; and coordination with Laboratory Information Services; clinical test interpretation and consultation; and assay development and validation. Position is for Assistant or Associate Professor in the clinical track. Academic rank and salary are commensurate with qualifications. Required qualifications include board certification in Clinical Pathology (CP) or in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP). The individual will be expected to have, or successfully obtain, a New York State license to practice medicine (M.D.s) and to hold or be eligible for the appropriate New York State Certificates of Qualification. An academic background with demonstrated academic accomplishments is desirable, recent graduates from pathology residency or fellowship programs are encouraged to apply. Candidates with interest or experience in Informatics are preferred.
