Co-Director of Pediatric Laboratory Services, St. Louis Children’s Hospital
The Department of Pathology & Immunology and the Division of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine at Washington University in St. Louis is seeking applications for a faculty member at the Assistant, Associate, or Professor level to serve as a Co-Medical Director of Pediatric Laboratory Services at St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH). SLCH is a 455-bed tertiary care hospital that serves a diverse patient population with multiple highly ranked subspecialities including neonatology, endocrinology, neurology, and transplant services. In addition, SLCH medical directors provide services and oversight for other hospitals in the BJC HealthCare System, including several pediatric outpatient centers.
The Department of Pathology & Immunology is a fast-paced and dynamic home to faculty with diverse clinical and research interests, and has a long record of innovation, research, and scholarship. The SLCH Laboratory is located in a state-of-the art facility, equipped with modern chemistry, hematology, urinalysis, coagulation, blood gas, point of care, LC-MS/MS, and GC-MS instrumentation. Specialized testing includes sweat chloride, toxicology, and biochemical genetics.
Clinical duties will include medical director oversight of select services in the SLCH laboratory, including but not limited to: general chemistry, special chemistry, coagulation, hematology, point-of-care testing, toxicology, and send-out testing. Clinical responsibilities will be shared with other faculty and are negotiable. The ideal candidate will ensure continued compliance with regulatory standards, provide consultative services, evaluate quality control/assurance data, lead quality improvement projects, participate in local and system level decision making, as well as other routine responsibilities. Proficiency/interest in lab stewardship is highly desirable.
The Department of Pathology & Immunology at Washington University sponsors a COMACC accredited fellowship program in Clinical Chemistry. Instruction and training of Chemistry Fellows and Pathology Residents is an important component of this position. In addition, the successful individual will participate in clinical, translational, and/or basic science research activities. Faculty members in the Division of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine have access to generous travel/education funds as well as a dedicated research laboratory space staffed with technologists and coordinators for research efforts.
Candidates must possess a M.D. and/or Ph.D. and be board-certified (or eligible) in Clinical Chemistry from the American Board of Clinical Chemistry or by the American Board of Pathology. The successful candidate will have experience in validation and implementation of new laboratory methods, excellent interpersonal skills, enthusiasm for teaching, and a collaborative attitude. Academic rank and salary will be commensurate with experience.
