Director, Division of Laboratory Medicine - Vanderbilt University Medical Center

The Department of Pathology, Microbiology, and Immunology at Vanderbilt University School of Medicine invites applications for an outstanding leader to serve as Director of the Division of Laboratory Medicine. Acting under the Vice Chair for Clinical Affairs, this leader will provide clinical oversight and direction for the growing division clinical laboratories, including core chemistry, hematology, and coagulation, special chemistry, infectious diseases and immunology, molecular diagnostics, genomics, cytogenetics, and transfusion medicine. They will supervise the 16 full-time division faculty, and will be responsible for faculty recruitment, mentoring, and development. They will play an important role in strategic planning for the tripartite mission of the division in clinical affairs, education, and research.

The successful candidate will have a doctoral degree (M.D., D.O., and/or Ph.D.) with appropriate subspecialty training and certification in one or more disciplines of Laboratory Medicine. They must qualify for faculty appointment at the Associate or Full Professor level. They should have an outstanding record of academic achievement and clinical leadership, including medical director experience. They should have a compelling vision to develop and lead innovative clinical, academic, and educational programs in Laboratory Medicine. Experience and/or training in laboratory quality is desirable.

The Vanderbilt University Medical Center Diagnostic Laboratory is a state-of-the-art facility that analyzes approximately 6 million tests per year in support of patient care for the 864-bed Vanderbilt University Hospital, 267-bed Monroe Carell Jr. Children’s Hospital at Vanderbilt, associated outpatient clinics, and a national outreach program.
